Elements of Artificial Intelligence: a free online course

The role of AI in society and the economy is growing. Artificial Intelligence (AI) is a wide-ranging branch of computer science involved in developing smart machines capable of performing tasks that typically require human intelligence. What is this technology all about?

Elements of AI is a free online course created by the Finnish technology company Reaktor and the University of Helsinki. Its aim is to introduce the widest possible group of people (initially - at least 1 percent of Finnish citizens, later – within the European Union) to the basic concepts of AI and its areas of application.

The course will enable participants to gain or deepen their knowledge of AI: how it works and what it can achieve. The training combines theory with hands-on exercises and can be completed at your own pace. If you want to learn the basics of AI, visit elementsofai.pl (Polish version) or https://www.elementsofai.com/ (English version).

The Polish version of the course is the result of cooperation between the University of Helsinki, Reaktor, the European Commission and the Digital Poland Foundation.

AI on the Polish market

Today the amount of data that is generated by both humans and machines far outpaces human ability to absorb, interpret, and make complex decisions based on that data. AI forms the basis for all computer learning and is the future of all complex decision-making.

Nowadays, AI is used in almost every field of activity: military affairs, medicine, economics, industry, transport and culture.

Poland signed the EU Declaration of cooperation on Artificial Intelligence in April 2018. Since then, it has established several initiatives related to data and AI.

The top AI companies in Poland include Softengi, Huspi, Intellias, Stermedia, RESTGroup.

AI specialist is the profession of the future, but is already in demand today. Specialists in AI are engaged in:

  • recognition of language, images or handwriting
  • the use of AI in information security
  • the use of AI in computer games
  • the use of AI in education and knowledge engineering
  • creation of virtual reality
  • development of artificial immune systems and other medical tasks

Artificial Intelligence (AI) degrees teach students how to use advanced Mathematics, Computer Science, and Engineering to create systems and machines (e.g. robots, drones) capable of solving problems that normally require natural intelligence. Future graduates develop coding, critical thinking and analysis skills. Some of the most popular AI jobs are AI specialist, machine learning engineer, robotics engineer, computational linguist, etc.

Bachelor’s and Master’s courses in AI are available at Kozminski University, Poznan University of Technology, Warsaw University of Technology, and many other Polish universities.
