Celebration of University Day 2024 [coverage]
Each year, on January 11, we traditionally celebrate University Day. This is a significant and beautiful celebration because it is an ideal opportunity to appreciate the difficulties of scientific work and ceremonially present doctoral and postdoctoral promotions, among other things. It is also a time to express gratitude for the merits of the University's honorary professors and to award the competition winners for outstanding graduates of our Alma Mater.
The history of the University of Economics in Katowice dates back to January 11, 1937, when the founder and Rector of our University, Dr. Józef Lisak, delivered the first inaugural lecture at the then-only Faculty of Industrial Organization.
For the past 87 years, our academic community has been gathering in the Józef Lisak auditorium every year for a festive meeting of the Senate and Faculty Councils to celebrate University Day.
After singing the national anthem, this year's celebration was opened by Her Magnificence Prof. Celina M. Olszak, Ph.D., D.Sc., who officially welcomed all the numerous guests.
"We stand by the idea that science is first and foremost about people, and its strength lies in unity, sensitivity, commitment and creativity. Unity emphasizes that together, we can do much more than individually; sensitivity makes us realize that we work not only for ourselves but, above all, for others, especially the vulnerable and those in need of help. Commitment and creativity is a state of mind that encourages us to cooperate with others and to seek new challenges constantly." – Her Magnificence the Rector emphasized in her speech.
