70th Anniversary of the University of Lodz
In 2015, the University of Lodz celebrates the 70th anniversary of its foundation. On this occasion, we invite you to participate in the variety of events we offer, such as the UL Alumni World Convention 2015, the Joint Meeting of Lodz Universities' Senates, or, probably the most significant part of the celebration, namely the Conferment of Honorary Doctorate upon Prof. Umberto Eco. This honourable event will take place on 24 May 2015.
Umberto Eco is an Italian philosopher, essayist, semiotician, literary critic, and novelist. He is best known for his groundbreaking 1980 historical mystery novel: "Il nome della rosa" (The Name of the Rose), an intellectual mystery combining semiotics in fiction, biblical analysis, medieval studies, and literary theory. Eco has also written academic texts, children's books and numerous essays. He is the founder of the Dipartimento di Comunicazione (Dapartment of Media Studies) at the University of the Republic of San Marino, the President of the Scuolo Superiore di Studi Umanistici (Graduate School for the Study of the Humanities) at the university of Bologna, a member of the Accademia dei Lincei (since November 2010), and an Honorary Fellow of Kellogg College, University of Oxford.
